New pilot unit for Expanscience

Laboratoires Expanscience renews its trust in Tournaire for the supply of a new pilot unit for molecular distillation.

Expanscience is an independent French pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetic laboratory. With 40 years’ experience in the field of plants as raw materials, its R&D centre develops innovative, high quality active cosmetic and sensory ingredients thanks to its expertise in lipochemistry, vegetal extraction and molecular distillation.

Among the active ingredients used by Expanscience, Passioline, launched in 2017, has received awards at two major industry events: In-Cosmetics and NYCC Suppliers’ Day. It is an eco-designed and patented active ingredient, obtained from Maracuja oiled processed by molecular distillation. This process, for which Tournaire offers made-to-measure turnkey units, consists of separating a light from a heavy fraction using a high vacuum, wiped film evaporator, known as a molecular evaporator. Product contact time with the heating panel is very short, avoiding heat degradation. This distillation is described as “short-path” because the evaporated light fraction condenses immediately on a condenser placed at the core of the evaporator. This process makes it possible to work with many kinds of high added-value aromatic, food, nutraceutical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical compounds. It is generally used to purify and / or remove the colour extracts, especially of natural origin.
