The evaporator and its technical applications: fine chemistry, pharmaceuticals, agri-food and perfumery

Evaporation is the chemical principle involved in the conversion of a liquid into a vapour. In this article, we re-examine various questions relating to the concept of the evaporator and the Tournaire evaporating units. This is precious know-how that the industrial group, a specialist in extracting value from raw materials, is dedicated to developing in order to release the excellence inherent in your products to you.

THE EVAPORATOR: ONE OF TOURNAIRE’S FLAGSHIP PRODUCTS

The aim of industrial evaporation is to concentrate the extracts from a product by eliminating, via the effects of heat and/or reduced pressure, the water and any other volatile compounds containing it. The raw materials are the base ingredients used in fine chemistry, pharmaceuticals, the agri-food industry and, more specifically, perfumery. The extraction of raw materials is initially carried out with the help of solvents such as petroleum ether or hexane then continued, in general, via a process of ethanol extraction. An evaporator is used to place the raw materials in contact with a solvent that absorbs the aromatic compounds and is then removed via evaporation.

CUTTING EDGE EVAPORATION UNITS WITH TOURNAIRE KNOW-HOW

Tournaire evaporators are perfectly optimised to make all industrial application domains possible: fine chemistry, pharmaceuticals, agri-food, perfumery, etc. The units are designed in accordance with the characteristics of the products themselves, i.e. their viscosity, thermosensitivity and foam or crystal formation properties. The units feature a choice of three different heating type possibilities: steam (pressurised or vacuum), hot water and thermal fluid. These three modes extend the range of ways in which the units can be used. The different kinds of evaporators are:

Tournaire evaporation units are custom made to meet customers’ size requirements. A comprehensive range of tests has already been carried out in our laboratory to ensure operability and correct performance prior to delivery and installation at customers’ premises.

Thermal separation of products via evaporation is a widely used process in the converting industry. Tournaire is dedicated to providing cutting edge technical solutions for its customers. All the various types of evaporator have the same quality objective in common: obtain greater quantities of products whilst at the same time reducing the amounts of energy and raw materials used.
